The Perry's were exceptional hosts - they were so incredibly friendly and accommodating - we felt right at home. The farm and the accommodation embody their passion for stewardship and sustainability. What a great place to stay!

The Perry farm is a wonderful and relaxing place to stay and an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding areas. James, Laura and kids are welcoming, friendly and helpful, the most perfect hosts you could wish for. The quiet, peaceful farm surroundings are idyllic for those wishing to relax and take in the Vermont countryside. To stroll around the grounds and meet the happy animals is a blissful experience for adults and children alike. The room we stayed in was tastefully decorated, wonderfully cool during the hot summer days and quiet during the night, with the most comfortable bed that tempted you to stay in it for longer! We would for sure come back and stay again in the future – highly recommended!

My one-night stay at the Perry Family Farm was a magical experience from the moment I arrived and was greeted by an adorable Highland cow. I was going to give a guest lecture at Norwich University the following day, and the ambiance at the Perry Family Farm was perfect for relaxing and going over my slides after my long drive. I enjoyed meeting Laura and James, who were both super-pleasant as they gave me an overview of the space and they shared some of their story from building their farm. I was impressed with their attention to detail - I loved the “natural” wood hand railing on the staircase, for instance. As I had arrived in the evening I could not see much of the surroundings, but in the morning I awoke to stunning vistas of mountains covered by near-peak foliage colors, green pastures, and animals going about their morning routines. I had breakfast and coffee in my room while I sent a couple emails using the house WiFi, and as I went on into my day, I was already planning a return, next time with my girlfriend, to this transformative rustic/modern farm experience. I highly recommend staying at the Perry Family Farm!

The Perry Farm is a gem! This is the second time my boyfriend and I have stayed at the Perry Family Farm and we can't wait for our return trip. We stayed in the apartment for over a month and couldn't have been happier with the accommodations and the farm experience! It was truly a home away from home and James, Laura are wonderful hosts paying attention to every detail and they are now friends of ours. The apartment is beautiful, well furnished, cozy and feels like an English cottage. We frequently ate our meals (which we prepared in the apartment's full, well appointed kitchen) on the deck just outside the apartment overlooking the beautiful farm and mountain views or under the tree by the pond. They provide complimentary coffee and tea for our entire stay and our first night in had a few of their farm eggs, bread and milk in the fridge. The farm is peaceful, quiet and complete with their laying hens, ducks, geese, cows and pigs...all which have names and are a joy to watch. We awoke one morning to see that one of the cows had a calf in the middle of the night. James runs the farm and my boyfriend got to join him in slaughtering and cleaning a flock of his broiler chickens and we made pate out of the livers! Being interested in starting our own farm, that was a pretty priceless experience and opportunity the Perry's gave us. The property is off a quiet dirt road that affords nice walks...including one to the nearby Tibetan Monastery. In town there is Norwich University which is lovely to walk and visit their new (and free) museum, there is a good farmer's market, very well maintained hiking and biking trails through Paine Mountain, a few shops, a good pub, and a very nice town pool (great for the kids). Montpelier is only about 20 minutes away for the nights we wanted some fine dining or a night out on the town. The location is central to everything...we made motorcycling day trips everywhere like to the Champlain shore, Northeast Kingdom and south to Woodstock and still got back in time to cook up dinner...which was frequently one of James cuts of beef, pork or sausages. Both James and Laura are very knowledgable about the area and directed us to all the best spots from secret swimming holes to local events. There is so much opportunity to do it all or nothing at all while staying at the Perry's. We loved staying at the Perry's and can't wait to see them again soon.

Our three day stay in the second floor room started each morning with spectacular views of the pasture and foliage covered hills. A light and lovely breakfast with coffee and juice was followed by the chance to help with feeding the cows, pigs, and chickens and learn about the workings of the farm. The location was a great point to explore central Vermont and meet some of the Perry family's neighbours at the Northfield Farmers Market. After a full day, we enjoyed our locally grown food on the patio while watching the sun set over the mountains and retired to a very comfortable bed.

Our stay with the Perry Family was one of the most memorable experiences of our 8 day visit to Vermont!

What a super retreat!!! James was a consummate host and left no detail overlooked. The room was tastefully appointed; the bed was heavenly comfortable; the view of the farm amazing; and the daily interactions with Prudence the farm's welcome Pig was a joy! Breakfast in the garden was served promptly and with the same level of meticulous detail. This is a must stay location when visiting the Northfield and surrounding areas! ~bp
